Futsal for the Blind

Dortmund, Germany

Between 25-27 April 2014 in Dortmund, Germany the Romanian national futsal team was invited for two friendly matches with German teams from Dortmund. This weekend was realised with the support of the National Paralympic Committee, Romania, an event that was very important for the Romanian futsal team because it was their very first real international matches. The Romanian team was represented by:

Sorin Lapadatu – Team Manager

Attila Veres – Trainer

Monika Lukacs – Trainer/Referee

Tiberiu Paun – Player

Marian Alexandru Cucu – Player

Calin Marius Harlet – Player

Ovidiu Ioan Garboan – Player

Ionut Anton – Player

Florin Kovacs – Player

Mihai Nistor – Player

The German hosts made the Romanian team very welcome and excellent conditions were offered with regard to accommodation and an international standard football pitch. On Friday afternoon  both teams trained together and on the Saturday morning before the first match the Romanian team trained for an hour between 9-10am. At 3pm on Saturday afternoon in front of 150+ spectators and also a representative from the Dortmund’s mayor’s office, the first match was played. Unfortunately the final score was 10-0 for the Dortmund team.  In the second match on the Sunday morning Romania lost 6-0 which was an improvement as Attila Veres and Monika Lukacs had been able to observe and correct some mistakes made by the Romanian players.  On Sunday afternoon the Romanian team left with many positive lessons learnt. It was a marvellous opportunity for the Romanian team and we thank Ulrich Pfesterer, the Chief Trainer for blind football in Germany, for his invitation and organisation of this very useful weekend. NPC Romania hope to be able to reciprocate this invitation in 2015 for the German teams.

Under the IBSA UEFA Development Programme, six teams from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Poland and Romania, met in Prague, the Czech Republic from the 10 -13 July to participate in the IBSA Euro Challenge Cup in Blind Football. For all the teams this was the first really important international competition. Romania was represented by: Tiberiu Paun (Buzau), Mihai Nistor (Buzau), Marius Harlet (Bucharest), Cosmin Calota (Bucharest), Florin Kovacs (Bacau), Ionut Anton (Bacau), Florin Stoian ( Goalkeeper), Attila Veres (Coach),Monica Lukacs (Referee), Sorin Lapadatu (Team Leader). Romania was in a group with Poland and Hungary and in the first match against Hungary they were leading 2-1 until the final ten minutes when Hungary scored again to make it a 2-2 draw. In the match against Poland they lost 0-4. Playing for the 5th and 6th place Romania was against Moldova and drew 0-0, In the penalty shoot-out Moldova won by a single penalty. Belgium won the cup, with the Czech Republic in the 2nd place and Poland in the 3rd. The event was very well organised – and apart from the travel the accommodation and meals were paid for under the UEFA program. The Romanian team was the most inexperienced team but already have received more invitations and with more frequent trainings being organised at home and more competition experience, they can only improve.
