600 participants from over 30 countries worldwide gathered in Sochi today for the opening ceremony of the IWAS World Games. Six sports are featured: athletics, archery, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, arm wrestling. Romania entered this competition for the first time under a solidarity programme arranged by the Russian Paralympic Committee. The Romanian athletics team composed of Ciprian Baraian, Florin Cojoc, Florentina Hriscu are here to try and win qualification times for the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016, Ghiorghi Filip with his trainer Doru Danilet are here to represent Romania in the archery event and the table tennis were invited to complete the team. Tomorrow the table tennis event begins while athletics and archery will begin only on Tuesday.
Gheorghe Filip represented Romania in archery at the IWAS World Games in Sochi, Russia.On the first day of the competition Filip qualified winning tenth place a very good result for such a high level competition. Unfortunately on the 2nd day he lost the elimination round against an archer from China. However, it was a very good experience for him and he wil try to qualify for Rio in other competitions in 2016. Filip is a very good member of the team and we all wish him success in 2016 to achieve his dream to go to Rio.
